"I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness." -John 12:46
I have always been taken by the dark and light used in Rembrandt’s paintings and the old masters’ use of shadows and light. I used the shadows and light coming into this scene to symbolize the man that was in darkness and, through the healing of our Savior, was brought to the light. Although I’m sure that Christ was in bustling streets with people all around him, I liked the idea of a quiet scene; perhaps Christ had seen this man who was blind and came back alone, without ceremony or public display, and healed this man who had had this condition for his entire life.
